Acacia is an artistic project by Marco Maria Zanin at the Civic Museums of Reggio Emilia, weaving together contemporary art, archaeology and personal memory. Emerging from the artist’s intimate story – the loss of his twin sister before birth, whom he affectionately named Acacia – the catalogue records a journey that blends sculpture, ceramics, bronze, glass, textiles and photography in dialogue with the collections of the Gaetano Chierici Museum of Palaeontology. The works, created in collaboration with artisans thanks to the support of Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d’Arte, explore the idea of the funerary assemblage as a space of passage and transformation, opening up new possibilities for engaging with heritage and collective memory. Critical essays – by internationally renowned scholars and curators – investigate Zanin’s methodology, grounded in the relationship between art and anthropology, as well as the museum’s role as a site for contemporary experimentation. Richly illustrated and bilingual, the volume presents a project in which art becomes a collective act of reinterpreting the past and shaping the future.

The catalogue includes essays by Anna Castelli, Alberto Cavalli, Alessandro Gazzotti, Matteo Lucchetti, Giada Pellegrini, Sara Ricciardi, Marco Scotini, Andrea Staid, Marco Maria Zanin.
